The Policy Development and Programme Implementation Directorate has a number of functions in the Ministry. It administers the Ministry’s participation in meetings of the European Union, it coordinates European Union issues related to the Ministry’s remit and concerning the entities within the Ministry’s portfolio, with other authorities and Ministries as well as the Permanent Representation of Malta to the EU and the Ministry for European Affairs. The Directorate facilitates the implementation of the approved policies of the Ministry. Through a number of processes at its disposal, the directorate strives to ensure that entities are updated so as to enable timely action. It acts as the focal point on all European Union matters, in consultation with technical experts within the Ministry’s remit, it formulates and recommends the position to be taken on proposed EU legislation, it follows up transposition and the implementation of EU measures. The Directorate monitors all EU funded projects undertaken by the Ministry from application to payment stage, so as to ensure the timely successful completion of such projects.
